Three people aboard a small plane died when it crashed into a home on a cul-de-sac in Plainfield, Mass., about 30 miles southwest of Boston, just before 5 p.m. Sunday, The Boston Globe reported.

Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said fire crews were battling the three-alarm blaze that broke out. The Sun Chronicle reported that several local fire departments had responded to the crash, but that the home's occupants got out safely.

Jim Peters of the Federal Aviation Administration said the Beechcraft BE36 had taken off from Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania and was en route to an airport in Norwood, Mass.

Police and emergency medical personnel were also at the scene, the Globe reported, and officials said National Transportation Safety Board representatives were en route. State police were also dispatching homicide detectives and patrols, according to Procopio.

The Federal Aviation Administration was also expected to investigate the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident, officials said.
