AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: This weather blog is no longer updating. Check KVUE's new weather blog for a look at the rainy forecast.

A brief return to dry weather is in the forecast for the end of the workweek, so make sure to enjoy it while you can. Starting this weekend, we kick off another extended stretch of rainy and stormy weather that will continue through at least the middle of next week.

The changes to our weather pattern will begin on Friday with the return to a southeasterly breeze. Plan on morning clouds again for Friday morning with partial clearing for the afternoon. It will also trend a bit warmer with highs near 80 degrees. Friday will be the last dry day before daily rain chances start on Saturday.

The wet weather pattern is expected to return this weekend through the start of next week. A disturbance is expected to spark thunderstorms in the higher terrain of Mexico late Friday into early Saturday.

We will also have to watch storms along a dry line in West Texas on Saturday as they could move over Central Texas's western counties.

A string of disturbances keeps daily rain chances through early next week. This could include the chance for a few rounds of strong to severe storms starting this weekend. We're especially keeping an eye on the severe potential for Tuesday of next week.

Rainfall totals of two to four inches are expected to be widespread across Central Texas over the extended forecast period. This means more beneficial rain but also the potential for flooding, especially in areas still saturated from recent rains.
