A few rumbles of thunder will be possible tonight, but the threat for severe storms is expected to stay to the north.

AUSTIN, Texas — Tired of the fog and clouds? Well, you're in luck! A cold front will push through Central Texas tonight. This front will bring with it showers and maybe even a few storms, but behind it we finally return to sunshine by Monday afternoon.

Prior to the front, fog and light showers/mist will continue through the rest of this evening. We're expecting the front to begin pushing in across the Hill Country after about 1 a.m., and it will quickly move eastward through the overnight.

A broken line of showers and storms is expected to form along this frontal boundary. Fortunately, it still appears that the risk for severe weather will stay to our north. So a few rumbles of thunder are fair game, but we do not expect issues with severe weather tonight.

Shower and storm activity will continue to push east through the overnight hours. It looks like the front will be starting to clear the Interstate 35 corridor and Austin-metro after about 6 a.m.

After about 9 a.m., the front will be clearing our eastern most counties, and dry air will quickly filter in behind it with widespread sunshine by the afternoon. Because this is a Pacific front, it will not be much cooler with highs still in the 70s.

Fortunately, it looks like the main risk for severe storms with this system will remain to our north. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined portions of North Texas in the "slight" – level 2 of 5 – risk for severe storms, but this does not include any part of Central Texas.

The "marginal" – level 1 of 5 – threat currently ends just north of Milam County, so no part of the KVUE area is included in any risk level. The KVUE Storm Team will continue to closely monitor the forecast but, at this point, severe weather is not expected for Central Texas.

Behind this front, Monday afternoon and Tuesday will be completely dry. Another front will move through mid-week but likely will not have enough moisture to provide any rain chances.

Rainfall totals over the next seven days should be largely under a quarter inch for Central Texas. Slight rain chances do not return to the forecast until the weekend.
