Forecast: Storm chance Thursday, then back to heat this weekend

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — Today was officially the hottest day of 2024 in Austin with a high of 94 degrees. Unfortunately, that's not going to stand for much longer with even hotter weather in the forecast next week. Before we get there, however, we have another storm chance Thursday and Friday!

Ahead of the storms, Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Thursday will bring a round of showers and storms for the afternoon and evening, and perhaps additional storms through Thursday night and even into Friday.

Pinpointing the exact timing of different rounds of storms remains tricky, but the greatest rain potential will be Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. Some of these storms could be severe as we once again track the potential for very large hail. There is currently a level 2 of 5 severe weather risk. There could also be some localized flooding, especially along and east of I-35 with some spots seeing a quick 1 to 2 inches or more of rainfall.

By this weekend the rain is gone, and the heat returns. We'll be in the low to mid 90s both Saturday and Sunday, and then mid to even upper 90s for the first half of next week.

TUESDAY NIGHT:
Mostly clear and mild. South wind at 5 to 10 mph.
LOW: 64

WEDNESDAY:
Partly cloud. Hot. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.
HIGH: 92

WEDNESDAY NIGHT:
Mostly cloudy. Not as cool. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.
LOW: 69

SEVEN-DAY FORECAST:

Severe storm risk on Thursday.
