Forecast: Hottest day of the year so far followed by possible severe storms late Thursday

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — We hope you've had a great week so far this week!

We're expecting a muggy afternoon Wednesday, with highs in the lower 90s and possibly our hottest day of the year at Camp Mabry so far. Additionally, expect a quite humid afternoon with heat indices reaching likely well over the triple digits in spots.

With this in mind, please drink plenty of water if you have to be outside through most of the afternoon.

The same goes for Thursday, but we're tracking a frontal system that will not only provide relief from the humidity, but a good storm chance Thursday afternoon and evening. These storms could be quite strong, with some northern portions of the viewing area – including Austin – under a 3 out of 5 "enhanced" severe storm risk, with all modes possible, including large to very large hail and damaging winds. We also can't rule out an isolated tornado or two.

While Friday does bring relief from the humidity, we could see storm chances ramp up for the latter end of the weekend, especially Sunday night into Monday, before we warm up for the start of next week. Stick with KVUE for the latest on the storm chances.
