No gift is too much for these Austin area foster care teenagers

Their CPS caseworkers asked them what their dream Christmas wish list would be, and as a surprise, the non-profit Foster Angels made those wish lists come true for nearly 150 teenagers in foster care in Central Texas.

AUSTIN — Christmas will be extra special for several Austin-area foster care teenagers.

Their CPS caseworkers asked them what their dream Christmas wish list would be, and as a surprise, the non-profit Foster Angels made those wish lists come true for nearly 150 teenagers in foster care in Central Texas.

For so many of these teens in foster care, they’ve never experienced a true Christmas with gifts under the tree. But that’s changing thanks to hundreds of sponsors and donors in the Austin area.

"Today is our last filler day where we're actually going out and buying final things to put in there because a lot of these kids have never had a Christmas before,” said Foster Angels Executive Director Tania Leskovar-Owens.

For weeks they’ve been collecting gifts from sponsors for the wish lists to be completed. CPS caseworkers even asked each teen what they’re favorite restaurant was, so they could include a gift card in each present.

"Their case workers asked them some things they might want for the holidays and so we're coming in and we're kind of doing all of it and then some,” said Leskovar-Owens.

No gift was too big or too expensive. There are bikes, Air Jordans, iPods, Kendra Scott jewelry and even a few Nintendo Switches.

Foster Angels wants to make sure no foster care teenager feels forgotten in Central Texas this Christmas.

When all the gifts are wrapped by volunteers, they’re placed in individual plastic bins that the teenagers can use for storage for their items.

"Every kid deserves to be spoiled rotten on Christmas,” said a volunteer while wrapping gifts.
