On November 11, 2018, customers of the Bastrop Buc-ee's gas station and convenience store were evacuated due to a false bomb threat, officials told KVUE.

The City of Bastrop stated officials evacuated the area of 1700 Texas 71 after 5 p.m. The City of Bastrop police and fire departments responded, along with the City of Austin bomb squad and K-9 units. They said nothing was found in the building or grounds surrounding the store.

The store reopened at about 7:30 p.m. State Highways 71 and 95 remained open throughout the incident.

“Threats of this nature are taken very seriously. The safety of our residents, our visitors, Buc-ee’s staff and our public safety personnel remain our top priority,” said Public Safety Director Chief James Altgelt. “I am thankful to Austin Police Chief Brian Manley and the Austin Bomb Squad-unit, our partners at the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bastrop County Sherriff’s Office and Emergency Services District #2, and to the men and women of the Bastrop Police and Fire Departments for their response this evening.”

Officials said that although no explosive device was found, the incident would be part of an ongoing investigation. They also said there was no reason to believe this is anything other than an isolated incident.
