The Texas Longhorns' bye week checklist

Texas is preparing for the next game against Oklahoma State. Will the Horns be a member of the top five by the time UT travels to Stillwater one week from Saturday?

AUSTIN — Here are the items checked off an imaginary checklist so far during this much-needed bye week.

  1. Six wins in the first seven games, check.
  2. Bowl eligibility, check.
  3. Ranked in the top 10 at number seven, the programs highest ranking since 2010, check!

Since it is the bye week, what exactly are the Longhorns up to? It's business as usual. Practice and time to heal, including Sam Ehlinger's AC sprain on his throwing shoulder.

An ideal time for a bye before preparing Oklahoma State on Oct. 27.

The Horns welcome the bye week and remain dialed into the season.

But there have been a few notable tweets signifying this short break from the rigors of the season. For example, Tight Ends Coach Derek Warehime got to see his daughter smash an inside-the-park homer in softball. That's quality time with the fam.

The Longhorns' Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington reflected on the mid-season accomplishments by receivers Colin Johnson and Lil' Jordan Humphrey. The two receivers have combined for 10 touchdown receptions and more than 1,139 yards of receiving.

Former Longhorn and UT's Defensive Line Coach Oscar Giles tweeted out a reminder about the team's mantra: Playing for someone other than yourself.

We will hear from the Longhorns Tuesday evening. Texas will begin preparation for Oklahoma State. The Horns may be a member of the top five by the time UT travels to Stillwater one week from Saturday.

You can catch that game right here on your channel of champions, KVUE, on Oct. 27. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
