Man charged with murder after repeatedly running over relative in Leander, officials say

Williamson County Sheriff's Department is investigating an auto-pedestrian murder case after Jesse Vickers confessed to running over and killing Frederick John Goodrow.

LEANDER, Texas — A man has been charged with murder in an auto-pedestrian case after he confessed to running over and killing a relative during a family gathering Friday night.

Around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Williamson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of an auto-ped accident, according to their twitter.

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said someone called 911 just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday about someone driving up and down Red Oak Lane, possibly trying to "hit things." When deputies arrived, they found Frederick John Goodrow's body in the middle of the road.

Goodrow and his relative Jesse Vickers reportedly got into an argument on Red Oak Lane in Leander, reports said.

"The victim in this case was at a small gathering/party at a known residence. The victim and a possible family member were having an argument that started at 10:00 and lasted well into the night and early morning. We don't know what was the cause of the argument," said Chody.

According to WCSD, Vickers used his grandmother’s Honda to hit Goodrow twice. Vickers attempted to run him over a third time, but a third party jumped in to protect Goodrow, officials said. Vickers reportedly avoided the two and drove off to his residence.

When first responders arrived on scene, Goodrow was still alive. But, later when EMS arrived they pronounced him dead on scene, WSCO said in a briefing.

Deputies said they were sent to Vickers' known address after obtaining a search warrant. There they confronted Vickers. He then reportedly confessed and was taken into custody.

WSCO reports Vickers is 28 and Goodrow was 34.

Sheriff Chody said this is an odd crime.

"We are not talking about a shooting or a stabbing, you're talking about intentionally being hit by a car by a family member, I mean a lot uniqueness in this one," said Sheriff Chody.

According to Williamson County Jail records, Vickers has been charged with murder. His bond is set at $300,000.
