Thousands of Central Texans' health insurance could be affected by commissioners’ decision

If approved by Travis County commissioners, the plan could impact health insurance for thousands of Central Texans.

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Central Health president and CEO is asking Travis County commissioners to hold off on approving a plan that may impact health insurance for thousands of Central Texans.

Last week the Central Health Board of Managers voted to drop insurance coverage through "Sendero Health Plans." Sendero is a non-profit plan offered through Central Health. This could impact thousands of people who are enrolled in the program.

Starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sendero members and opponents of the potential change attended the commissioners' meeting to give their input. Central Health CEO Mike Geeslin asked the court to postpone the decision until it can hold a special meeting to allow the public to weigh in, according to KVUE's news partners at the Austin American-Statesman. The Statesman said he expected the meeting to be called for Friday or Saturday.
