Austin Cafe enforces locked restroom code to remind customers of approaching election day

AUSTIN, Texas — Election Day is Nov. 6 and a local coffee shop wants to make sure you don't forget it.

They've placed a special door handle on every restroom asking customers the election day password.

At Kick Butt Cafe -- located on the corner of Airport and Koenig -- the restroom requires a special code, and a sign on the door tells patrons the code corresponds to the month and day of the midterm election.

If you don't know when election day is, well you might have to hold it.

"It was a little something I could do as a business owner to help remind people the date and to remind people to vote as we get closer," said Thomas Gohring, owner of Kick Butt Cafe.

Gohring said the goal is to have a little fun with an important topic in a way people will not forget the date.

No, you don't really have to hold it if you don't know the code. The owner said he's seen a variety of reactions: from those who have no problem getting in, to others looking it up on their cell phones, and even utter frustration.
