Glider pilot, 81, hit barbed wire fence before crashing in Burnet County, DPS says

The 81-year-old pilot suffered minor injuries to his face after crashing his glider in Burnet County.

BURNET COUNTY, Texas — An 81-year-old Cedar Park man has been identified as the man who crashed a glider in Burnet County on the afternoon of Sept. 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

James Morris Carter of Cedar Park crashed a glider along County Road 108 when DPS said he lost altitude at 3:48 p.m. Carter "could not find a thermal to keep the glider elevated," DPS said.

Carter found a field to land in, but DPS said he hit a barbed wire fence as he tried to land.

The pilot had minor injuries to his face, but he refused treatment from medics.
