Smithville softball returns home from World Series runners-up

A community filled with Tiger pride treated the girls to a warm welcome home Monday afternoon.

SMITHVILLE, Texas — A Central Texas little league softball team is home after a trip to the World Series.

The Smithville Little League Junior Lady Tigers came home runners-up after snagging the win at the U.S. Southwest regional tournament.

The team returned home to stands full of fans Monday night.

“Amazing,” said Brooke Otto, one of the players. “It was so thrilling. I can’t explain it. It was awesome seeing everyone here cheering us on.”

The team arrived in style, riding around the track on a firetruck before running through a tunnel of football players with flowers.

“They kept up with us during the state, regionals, and even the World Series,” said Otto of the town’s dedication to their team.

Players said they were speechless seeing how many people showed up to support their success.
