Father charged after child found abandoned following crash in Williamson County

The child was found abandoned at a pool in Williamson County July 28.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — A man has been charged after he allegedly left his child at a pool in Williamson County, according to Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said that on July 28 shortly before 7:30 p.m., deputies responded to a splash pad in the Paloma Lake subdivision after someone reported that there was an abandoned child.

Witnesses who spoke with deputies said that they saw a man leave the child at the splash pad unattended. The man then reportedly left the pool parking lot after crashing into a handicap sign on the sidewalk, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 12:30 a.m. July 29, Chody tweeted that the mom had been found and was unaware of what happened. Chody also said that the father was found at his residence. Ricardo Jr Cardenas was arrested and charged with child endangerment, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff said that Twitter helped lead investigators to the parents.

Deputies notified Child Protective Services, according to Chody. CPS took the child into custody until his mother, who was out of town at the time, could pick the child up on July 29.
