AUSTIN -- In just his second season, University of Texas Baseball Coach David Pierce received quite an honor. Pierce has been named the 2018 National Coach of the Year by Baseball America.
Pierce led the Longhorns to the program’s first College World Series appearance since 2014. It was also Pierce’s first trip to Omaha as a head coach.
Pierce -- who just completed his second season at the helm of the program -- steered Texas to a 42-23 record on the year. With a sweep of Texas Christian University in the final series of the season, Texas won the Big 12 Conference Championship for the first time since 2011. After clenching that championship, Pierce was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
