RAIN TOTALS: Strong storms overnight Sunday bring much-needed rain to Austin-area

Many parts of the Austin area received several inches of rain overnight Monday.

A cluster of strong storms blew through the Austin metro area late Sunday night and into the early hours of Monday morning.

Many people at different locations in Central Texas were awakened to the sound of howling winds, power outages, the clapping of thunder, and flashes of intense lightning -- at times more than 2,000 flashes on the radar.

In addition to those weather instances, very heavy rain blanketed locations from western Hill Country to northern Williamson and eastern Milam counties. An Areal Flood Advisory came down from National Weather Service at 12:27 a.m. for Travis, Williamson, and Burnet counties until 4:30 a.m. Then, there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 12:35 am until 1 a.m. for Travis and Williamson counties, and many areas experienced wind gusts of 60 mph.

At 1:03 a.m., the National Weather Service put a Flash Flood Warning in effect for both Travis and Williamson counties followed by Burnet and Llano. Throughout the dark hours of Monday morning, warnings came and went with the last warning for a flash flood in effect for Blanco, Burnet, and Llano counties until 7 a.m.
