Forecast: Triple-digit "feels like" heat; isolated storm chances midweek

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — The switch has flipped in Central Texas and now we're feeling a whole lot like summertime. Heat and humidity will be the main story for the rest of this week through Memorial Day, but there are also a few opportunities for isolated strong to severe storms.

Tuesday morning will begin with low clouds and the afternoon will bring more hazy sunshine. High temperatures will reach the low to mid-90s, but when you factor in the humidity, the "feels like" temperatures will reach the lower triple digits for many spots, including Austin.

Wednesday will be very similar with highs in the mid-90s, but there is also a chance for scattered storms during the late afternoon through early overnight hours. The overall storm chance is approximately 30%, but where storms form they could be severe with hail and strong winds. There is also an isolated chance for rain for both Thursday and Friday.

Expect hazy conditions to stick around for the middle and end of the workweek because of a combination of smoke from seasonal burning and gas flaring activities in the southwest Gulf of Mexico.

For Memorial Day Weekend, we'll not only get our hottest weather of the year so far, but we'll challenge daily heat records as highs climb to the upper 90s. Triple-digit "feels like" temperatures are expected and heat alerts will be likely. For Memorial Day, we expect mostly sunny skies with a high of approximately 99 degrees in Austin.
