AUSTIN, Texas -- In wake of the Sante Fe shooting that claimed the lives of multiple people at the South Texas high school, Austin students with March of Our lives organized a march and vigil to mourn the victims.
Those who marched said this feeling of grief is becoming far too familiar.
“The first initial thing you feel is the weight all of these deaths on your shoulders, and it's not something that's easy to heal from,” said Selina Eshraghi, a freshman at UT and organizer of the event. “You end up in a space where you're feeling everything at once. You feel angry, frustrated, confused, sad, and really heartbroken, especially now after parkland which was so significant for a lot of us here. All those feelings are amplified. It feels like losing those people all over again.”
The event was held at 8 p.m. Friday as Ausinites marched from St. Austin Church, located at 2026 Guadalupe St., to the steps of the Texas State Capitol.
About twenty people sat at the steps of the Capitol and sang ‘Amazing Grace,’ had a moment of silence, and hoped for change.
