Williamson Co. neighborhood on edge after reports of man lurking in backyards

According to neighbors KVUE spoke with, a homeowner warned others that she was eating a late dinner with family when she looked up and saw a strange man standing at her back door staring at them.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas -- Residents in a Williamson County neighborhood -- just north of Leander -- are discussing ways to protect themselves after several reports of suspicious activity these past few weeks.

It’s happening in the Summerlyn community off Highway 183A.

According to neighbors KVUE spoke with, a homeowner warned others that she was eating a late dinner with family when she looked up and saw a strange man standing at her back door staring at them.

By the time she reacted, he ran off, she said. The homeowner said her gate wasn’t open, so it’s possible the man jumped the fence.

Then Wednesday night, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office told KVUE that an off-duty police officer reported a suspicious man in his neighbor’s yard in the Summerlyn community.

By the time officers arrived, the suspicious man was gone.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is sending out detectives to the Summerlyn neighborhood on Friday to search the area more thoroughly.

In the meantime, police are asking people to report anything suspicious and call them at 512-943-1300.
