AUSTIN — Prime swimming season is approaching as spring speeds by and summer approaches on its heels.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is already preparing for the rush of kids and adults alike to city watering holes and is putting out a "help wanted" notice for lifeguards.

The city says they're currently running low on the number of lifeguards they need for the 2018 swim season.

So if you swim like a fish, the pool might be the best place for you to make an extra $13.84 an hour.

To sign up, attend the Hiring Day Event on Friday, April 27 at the Aquatics Administration and Training Center located in the 2818 block of San Gabriel Street.

The event runs from 4-8 p.m., and attendees will be able to submit an application, interview, and register for the required training.

If you can't swim very well, the Parks and Recreation Department is also looking for cashiers and pool attendants. But keep in mind, pool attendants start at $12 an hour.

Applicants who are 15-16 years old need to have their parents along with them on the Hiring. However, 17-year-olds are only required to have their parent signatures on their application materials.
