Several arrested after Austin office employee forged prescriptions on monthly basis: Police

According to an affidavit, 19 people would receive the prescriptions from the suspect and then give them to a drug trafficking organization in exchange for keeping some of the drugs or money.

Police are investigating after an office employee at an Austin medical facility allegedly prescribed drugs to 19 individuals illegally, contributing to a drug trafficking organization, according to the Austin Police Department.

According to an arrest affidavit, authorities received a tip from Crime Stoppers in May 2017 stating that an office employee identified as Kristy Hargrove from Austin Neurology and Sleep Accociates was writing prescriptions to 19 individuals illegally. The federal investigation revealed that Hargrove was allegedly forging prescriptions on a monthly basis under the registration number of a doctor at the medical facility, police said. The doctor allegedly told police that the 19 individuals receiving prescriptions from Hargrove were not patients and that the prescriptions were fraudulently written to obtain the drugs.

The 19 individuals would receive the prescriptions from Hargrove and then give them to a drug trafficking organization "in exchange for keeping some of the controlled substances or cash payments," the affidavit said. Hargrove is facing federal charges in the Western District of Texas for her role in the drug trafficking organization that the individuals were allegedly involved with, police said.

Among the 19 individuals who allegedly received the prescriptions, seven have been identified by police as Dora Perez, 20; Raymon Roberts, 44; Latanya Britton, 37; Krystal Haycock, 31; Janis Edwards, 40; Terrance Clark, 42 and Anthony Taylor, 45. Perez, Roberts, Britton, Haycock, Edwards, Clark and Taylor face a charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, a second-degree felony.
