San Antonio man dead after tractor trailer overturns in Caldwell County, officials say

One man died while another man was taken to a hospital, officials said.

CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas -- Authorities have identified the driver who died after a tractor trailer overturned March 30 in Caldwell County, crushing the cab and injuring a passenger inside.

Officials said that at around 3:35 p.m., 21-year-old Esai Eugene Ellison of San Antonio was driving the tractor trailer along southbound State Highway 130 when the vehicle veered off the roadway to the west side bar ditch. Ellison tried to get back on the roadway, but struck the guardrail, causing the vehicle to flip over onto its top, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Ellison and the passenger of the vehicle, 26-year-old Aaron Bryant Ellison, were trapped inside the trailer and had to be extricated, officials said.

The driver died at the scene. DPS said the passenger -- who is also from San Antonio -- was taken to a hospital, where his condition is unknown as of Monday morning.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management released the following video from the scene on their Facebook page:

Southbound lanes of State Highway 130 in Caldwell County just south of Hwy 80 were closed Friday afternoon after the trailer overturned.

One southbound lane of State Highway 130 reopened at approximately 5:35 p.m.
