Multiple crews respond to house fire in Travis County, couple displaced

Multiple fire crews responded to a house fire near Leander that displaced a couple Sunday morning.

TRAVIS COUNTY -- Multiple fire crews responded to a house fire near Leander that displaced a couple Sunday morning.

David Wallace with Travis County Fire said the call to Bingham Creek Road came in around 8:15 a.m.

When crews arrived they had limited access to the home and had to cut trees to get to it.

“In these rural areas, especially with these long driveways, they need to trim their trees and keep the trees cut back far enough off the roadway so that we can get large equipment through here, because that was definitely a hindrance on this," Wallace said.

Propane tanks near the home also caused some concern, according to Wallace.

“I don’t think it could have been worse, it could have been better," said Wallace. "Had they not had to stop and cut trees, they could have got here and got water on it sooner.”

The woman that lived in the home requested her name not be used. She said she and her husband have lived in the home since 1986. She said smoke started coming from the utility room.

Fire officials said when they arrived smoke and flames were coming from the kitchen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
