SXSW puts on music show for kids at Dell Children's Hospital

"MyMusicRX brings joy to children that are in the hospital and not able to experience the things that other kids are able to enjoy,” said Sarah Marshall with the MyMusicRX Austin Champions Board.

Music from SXSW made a stop at Dell Children's Hospital on Thursday.

It's the sixth year for MyMusicRX to partner with Dell Children's for the music event.

Musicians play in the courtyard at the hospital for any patient who wants to listen.

"It just means so much to our families and our patients who would otherwise not get to be a part of this," said Kim Stephens, the child life manager at Dell Children’s. "Some of our patients and families have been here and will be here throughout the duration of SXSW, so this would be their only opportunity to really participate.”

MyMusicRX said music helps heal, and can relieve stress, anxiety and the perception of pain.

"MyMusicRX brings joy to children that are in the hospital and not able to experience the things that other kids are able to enjoy,” said Sarah Marshall with the MyMusicRX Austin Champions Board.

Marshall said it can be a break for the parents and families too.

"It's just a break from the medications, a break from the treatments, just a time to laugh and have fun,” said Marshall. "MyMusicRX has been partnering with Dell for the past six years to do this concert and to be able to bring the music into the hospital, let the kids experience a break from what they're going through, and the families, their parents, and the other kids, to just get away from what they're dealing with in the hospital and to have some fun with the music."

The child life manager with Dell Children's said the event has grown each year, with more musicians and children stopping by each time.

She said they hope even more people will participate next year.
