SWAT standoff following 'family violence situation' in Southeast Austin ends peacefully

A SWAT standoff in Southeast Austin, where a man refused to answer his door for authorities following a reported family violence disturbance, has ended peacefully, Austin police confirmed to KVUE

Police said they received a call from the victim just after 5 a.m. March 5 about an incident in the 1700 block of Nelms Drive.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they attempted to make contact with the man, who was inside the home alone, but he refused.

A SWAT team was called in to assist after police discovered that the suspect, described as a man in his 40s, has a felony warrant.

Just after 11:40 a.m., police confirmed that the SWAT standoff ended with the man exiting his home without incident. Police said the man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and is under arrest for family violence-related charges and a felony warrant.
