Cedar Park father files lawsuit in alleged racing crash that killed 2 kids

A Cedar Park father has filed a lawsuit against the drivers who allegedly raced before a crash that killed his two children.

The father of two young boys who were killed in a Cedar Park crash is suing the two drivers who police believe were drag racing just before the collision, KVUE's and the Austin American-Statesman's Tony Plohetski has learned Wednesday.

Cedar Park police said the crash happened in the afternoon of Jan. 10 at Walton Way and West Whitestone Lane. The crash involved a red SUV and a black pickup truck. Salman Chaudhary's two sons, identified as Daniel Chaudhary, 1, and Elijah Chaudhary, 8, were killed in the crash. Chaudhary's wife, Zara Salman, was left with a life-altering brain injury. Their attorney said it is unclear whether her memory will ever fully return or if she'll ever be able to resume a normal life.

Police said two drivers -- 21-year-old Blake Kirkpatrick and 18-year-old Hayden Hammer -- were drag racing just before the collision happened. Both Hammer and Kirkpatrick have been charged. Hammer remains in the Williamson County Jail while Kirkpatrick is out on bond.

Attorney Adam Loewy represents the family.

"(Chaudhary) woke up on that day with a beautiful wife that he loved, and two children that he loved and then later that day, both of his children were dead, and she has a brain injury," Loewy said. "It is absolutely the worst thing anyone would go through."

The lawsuit, which seeks at least $1 million in damages, claims negligence against against the owner of the cars, as well as the two drivers. It also claims that a woman who was riding with Hammer did not try to stop them from racing.
