An Austin police officer has been charged with driving while intoxicated after an on-duty officer said he spotted him traveling more than 60 mph along 6th Street in the early hours of Monday morning.

The on-duty police officer said he was about to pull out of a parking lot in the 1200 block of West 6th Street at 1:36 a.m. when he said he "heard a loud, fast car heading my way and saw a red Corvette go speeding by." The officer said the Corvette was accelerating as he was trying to catch up with the driver.

He said he first clocked the Corvette at 60 mph in the posted 35 mph speed limit, and later clocked it at 65 mph.

Police identified the driver as 34-year-old Shawnn Williams, an Austin police officer, who was off-duty at the time of the traffic stop. According to online records, he is not currently in Travis County Jail as of Monday afternoon.
