Police said Ani Okeke Ewo, left, and Nicholas Kollias, seniors at the University of Rochester, were "forcibly abducted" Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015. The pair was found Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015. Four suspects are in custody.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Four people were in custody Monday after two missing New York college students, abducted and held by their captors, were found Sunday evening.

Police in Rochester, N.Y., said the University of Rochester students were last seen near the university around 2 a.m. Saturday. They were reported missing later that evening.

Seniors Ani Okeke Ewo, of Aurora, Ill., and Nicholas Kollias of Northbrook, Ill., were reported missing under "suspicious circumstances."

Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli said that during their investigation, police learned the men had been "forcibly abducted" and were being held in a home about four miles from the university campus.

Around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, a SWAT team entered the home and rescued the men. Ewo and Kollias were taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Ciminelli said. One of the students had been shot in the leg before the rescue.

The four suspects were taken into custody in or near the house, Ciminelli said. They will probably face kidnapping and assault charges, and more arrests could be made.

He said the victims were targeted and there was no threat to other students. He didn't provide any more details.

"I do want to point out this was a directed event and we have no information or evidence of any kind that this constituted a general threat to the University of Rochester community, nor do we have any information or evidence that there is a threat or safety concern to the University of Rochester community at this point," Ciminelli said.

University of Rochester President Joel Seligman said he was grateful the students had been found safe. He said he had spoken to both the students and their parents, and he thanked Rochester and University police for their prompt, successful response.
