Funeral services for Billy C. Aldridge drew about a thousand people to Lawrence United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015.

Crowds of people gathered Tuesday to say goodbye to an Indiana veteran after no family members stepped forward to make funeral arrangements.

Billy C. Aldridge, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, died on Oct. 14 at an Indiana nursing home. He was 80-years-old.

After no records of living family members could be found, the community decided to take things into their own hands. Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services worked with veterans groups and others to give Aldridge a proper burial.

Over 1,000 people attended funeral services for Aldridge in Lawrence, Ind., on Tuesday. Among the crowd, were other veterans and members of the community.
